I currently wear acuvue advance with hydraclear technology. The base curve is 8.3 and the diameter is 14. I want to buy colored contacts, and I want a color that only Freshlook Colorblends offers, however their base curve is only available in 8.6 and the diameter is 14.5. Should I not order those contact lenses? I hear the only effect is that the contact lenses don’t fit your eyes properly and so they may slide around a bit.

If you normally wear an 8.3 , then an 8.6 won’t fit you at all.

They will more than slide around a bit as you say….they probably won’t even stay on your eyes.

When color lenses slide around too much, you can’t see because the clear center won’t be in front of your pupil.

Besides that…you can’t order a different base curve unless it is on your prescription.

You will have to go to an optical store with your prescription and try out lenses first.

I would say no. Corneal scratching could result in contacts that are not the right size sliding around, and at the very least you will develop eye problems later. Not worth it.
I don’t think they [the eyewear people] can deviate from ordering what the doctor prescribed anyways.

These lens sizes are pretty different. The larger diameter enhances the flatter base curve. There may be other issues, too. Are your eyelids compatible with the larger diameter? Is the optic zone of the Freshlook large enough for your pupil size? Is the Freshlook lens material compatible with your tear production and proteins?

The real issue is that only a licensed practitioner can prescribe lenses, and brand and size are part of that prescription. You need to discuss your goals with your eye doctor, then only order the lenses for which you have a valid prescription.

An 8.3 base curve is a steeper curve than an 8.6. think of an 8.3 as a cereal bowl and an 8.6 as a plate. Your eye is shaped more like the bowl and therefore an 8.6 will not fit on your eye. Diameters are not an issue anymore but base curves do matter. Besides, no one can change your prescription except the eye doctor.
