Is it unhealthy to wear contact lenses since it does not allow your eyes to breathe?

Alright, so we all know that contact lenses does damage to our eyes to some degree. No matter what advertisements say, something that’s constant touching the most sensitive part of your exposed body is obviously unhealthy. I’m 14 this year and i really need contacts. My glasses are extremely annoying and unfashionable, but I’m scared to get contacts. I don’t know how i’ll b able to put something into my eyeball. and how to pinch back out without assitance. I don’t know how i will accept the fact that something’s sticking to my eye all the time. I need to know what are the long term side effects of contacts lense, what damages it does to the eyes, and how healthy they are. Are there eye diseases related to contact lenses. And no, i’m talking about wearing CLEAN lenses. Not like dirty lenses cuz i know you can get infections from that. Anything important about contact lenses would be helpful to me please. i want them so bad but i need over come the fear first. thanks.

They’re actually pretty safe nowadays. Back in the day people could get cataracts and all sorts of lovely things from them, but now they have ones that you can leave in for a week if you were so inclined. The new ones ‘breathe’ allowing air to get to your eye in a better sense.
As for putting them in/taking them out, it’s a little weird at first, but you’ll get use to it.
Personally, I’d stay stick with the glasses, just get a different style if you think they are unfashionable. The glasses look is way hotter than some chick pokin at her eyes trying to get out a contact.
for more info.
Hope this helps.

There are studies that show wearing contact lenses decreases the cell count of the cornea (that means the outer transparent layer of the eye)and it becomes easy to develop a serious eye infection
It also is known for decreasing the cell count of the inner cell layer of the cornea (the endothelium-it keeps the cornea transparent).
But there are people worn them for over 30 years and I didn’t see anyone who suffered from the damages I mentioned.
But contacts cause dry eye -that mean your tear fluid production decreases after a couple years and your eyes feel dry-like there is something in it /some people develop a real severe dry eye that makes wearing contacts impossible.
But you should know that contacts with high oxygen permeability are available and that they cause practically no harm -there are even some you might sleep with (which I not recommend)
As long as you use them right you will really feel comfortable
Have fun

I wore them for about ten years - usually the “extended wear” kind, only I put them in and not take them out until ten days to two weeks later.
I would have stopped sooner but a friend had some early eye surgery - R. K. - and it did not turn out so well for him.
Eventually my ophthalmologist buddy got it for himself, so I got Lasik and it turned out nearly perfect.
Otherwise, I probably would still be wearing them.
My daughter is allowed to wear them (16 yrs old) but she takes them out to soak nightly. That’s the safe way. Ask your eye doctor!

Actually, no. I’m thirteen going on fourteen, and I got contacts this year. There are certain requirements. You can’t wear them to swim, shower, sleep, or when you are sick. As long as you use a good cleaning solution, and take good care of them, it should be fine. It does hurt to put them in the first time, and it is really hard, but in time, it gets a lot easier, and painless, until you can do it in under 3o seconds each. Trust me, if I can handle it, you can handle it. Soft lenses don’t hurt AT ALL. If you’re overly scared, just ask your optometrist to do it for you first, get used to it, and then try it yourself. It doesn’t hurt to take in or out when you can do it correctly. Don’t worry, you’ll be proud when you do it. Good Luck!

i started wearing contacts when i was 13, im now 27. i have never had an infection. contacts do breath. you have to take out your contacts every night. clean them every night. only wear them as prescribed(some you can for 2 weeks, some you can wear for a month) you must ALWAYS wash your hands, and have everything clean. you dont actually touch your eye, the contact touches your eye. and when you go to take the contact out, you only touch the contact. if you can put eye drops in your eye with out squinting, you can wear contacts, so practice practice practice

Please remember that contacts generally float on the tear layer, not stuck to your eyeball unless dry. You are one very bright person. Yes there can be problems but they are extremely rare if you are following Doctors instructions properly. The biggest thing that I have noticed about contact wearers is that they tend to get more wrinkles around the eyes than people who just wear glasses. I believe this is from them stretching the eyelids too much, & too often.
